Falar de existencias imateriais é falar de nadas. Dizer que a alma humana, os anjos, Deus, säo imateriais, é dizer que eles säo nadas, ou que näo há Deus, näo há anjos, näo há alma. Näo posso raciocinar diferentemente (...) sem mergulhar no abismo sem fundo dos sonhos e dos fantasmas. Estou satisfeito, e suficientemente ocupado com as coisas que säo, sem me atormentar ou me preocupar sobre as coisas que talvez possam realmente ser, mas das quais näo tenho evidencia.
